Beatrice Photography
Now that I’m a fully fledged grown up, I really appreciate my childhood spent in the countryside of the stunning Malvern hills with the free rain that only children of the 70’s and 80’s will understand. The beauty of nature seeped into my bones, and as a child I wanted a bed made of moss and would regularly ask if could sleep on the hills. I made rose petal perfume, listened to the birds and would daydream of getting a job as a professional daydreamer and I believe that this has had an impact on the way that I view the world.
I studied photography at Hereford and then Blackpool. Although being a student in Blackpool was quite a strange experience I met my best friends and we spent nights wondering around allotments and parks taking photographs of trees in the dark and each and doing what should’ve been work but felt so much fun. Whilst studying, an opportunity to go to a small town in Virginia, Charlottesville, to work in a small photographic studio and gallery came up. Being a huge fan of Sally Mann, (my favourite photographer) I jumped at the chance to possibly be near her. This time I spent in America, on my own, had a huge impact on me, I travelled through the Blue Ridge Mountains, saw such huge landscapes and met such unique people and although I didn’t get to meet Sally Mann, being close and viewing her landscape was enough.
After loosing my footing slightly with photography, I found my track again when I met my husband and step son and continued to grow when I had my daughter 10 years ago, finding joy and magic again in nature and learning about love. I believe that your art has to come from within you, a big bundle of all the highs and all the lows. The older I get, the surer I get of this, that’s a benefit of age, you become sure of your self and your voice.
WEDDINGS
I love weddings and I love romance, and also love sparkly rings and beautiful dresses. Being chosen to photograph a wedding and being so intimately involved on such a special day is a real privilege. I graduated in photography over 20 years ago but didn’t immediately pursue a career in it but when I had my daughter my need to capture a moment in time became urgent again. Initially the thought of being a wedding photographer left me feeling terrified but when I tried it, I instantly fell in love. I love getting swept away with the emotion of the day.
I’m also not fussy when it comes to weddings. I got married bare foot under a tree and the wedding breakfast was a picnic and the music blasted out of the open car doors, my Mum made my dress and it still has the cigar burns and wine stains on it. My point is I love all kinds of celebration because it’s about the love, not the venue, and I want to tell that love story, however you want to give it.
My style…. My favourite ind of photography is the natural kind, I’m very relaxed and will blend in happily. I will take requests for specific pictures, I do understand that this can be a very special time where family and friends aren’t usually together, however I will say beyond that, just trust me. I love to capture the beautiful detail, the mood, the laughs and the moments in-between, I like to meet up before hand to have a chat a get to know a little about you because this way I get a better idea of what you’re about, and you will feel confident that I will capture everything you want - and more.
